This study explores the interrelationship between Buddhist philosophy and environmental awareness among university students in Mandalay. In the context of growing ecological concerns, it is essential to investigate how traditional religious values may contribute to sustainable thinking and behavior. Buddhism, particularly in its Theravāda form practiced widely in Myanmar, emphasizes spiritual values such as mindfulness, compassion, non-harming (ahimsa), and interconnectedness—all of which align closely with modern environmental ethics. Using a qualitative research approach, this study draws data from interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis conducted within Buddhist higher education institutions. The objective is to analyze how Buddhist teachings are integrated into environmental education and how they influence students' awareness and ecological responsibility. Findings are expected to show that Buddhist ethical frameworks can play a significant role in shaping pro-environmental behavior among young people, especially when such teachings are supported institutionally through green education initiatives. This research contributes to broader discussions on the intersection of religion, education, and sustainability, while offering practical implications for curriculum development in religious academic settings.
