This research “A sociological study of the role of Buddhist nuns and their social works in Myanmar” is all about philanthropic works of religious and social associations for people. The facts in this paper are about for groups of disciples that the Buddha established, which are known as Bhikkhus, Bhikkhunīs, Upāsakā and Upāsikās and how most of Myanmar Buddhists believe in Bhikkhunī Sāsanā and the position of nun order (Sāsanā), how important it is to the people in social and religious societies and the views on nuns from the people in Myanmar. What are the practices of nuns, how do they react on Dhamma, such as learning, practicing and penetrating Dhamma, views on formal and modern nuns? Are they real social workers and why do they turn to social works? What are the differences between the practice of Dhamma and social works, the types of philanthropy now and before, and what is real philanthropy like? How nuns turn to social works, what are the facts of real social works? The four objectives of this paper are (1) to know about social works of Myanmar Buddhist nuns, (2) to know how they work in the society of nuns, (3) to raise nun’s role in social life and (4) to know the duties and responsibilities of a real nun. Finally, it describes the biographies of famous nuns, how they try for Sāsanā (the teaching of the Buddha) and their works for society and religion.
